5 out of 5 stars Rush Hour.......2000-06-26

This is a great CD. The trumpet section in this band blows me away, they have a full rich sound rarely heard from a small college band. My favorite tune is Cherokee where the trumpet section has an incredibly impressive section feature. Combined with the tight rythm section, powerful trombones and a very fine sax section this band has it all.

I highly recommend this CD. I got it in December when I was in the Drake Honor Band. The jazz band came and played for us before our concert and I was impressed! They sound great in person and it drove me to get this recording of it. The one title that really blew me away was Things Ain't What They Used to Be. All the tunes on the recording are just as great as that one. I recommend this to all the people who like jazz and the way it is played. You'll love it!

This CD is wonderful compilation of both old standards and new upbeat favorites. From the first track (I-80 Shuffle) written by Drake University Jazz Director Andy Classen, all the way thru track 9, this jazz CD is a pleasure to listen to and shows that the Drake University Jazz Band has what it takes to play hard. All songs are played with lots of personal expression by each and every band member. If I had to pick out a favorite on this CD it would be Track 5, Caribeno. It's a spicy, Latin tune featuring the trumpets and a great rhythm section. You would never know by listening to this band that they are from Des Moines, Iowa. This is one jazz CD that will not collect dust in my CD collection. Check it out for yourself. You'll be glad you did.
