I've had the pleasure of hearing Chuck's music in person, at a jazz festival where he was a featured guest and, most recently, at a private party. I also have this terrific record.

Chuck is, quite simply, an artist with his vibes. He achieves an awesome amount of color from two mallets and swings beautifully with notes and space between. It seems like every note is hand-picked.

He travelled the world as Charlie Byrd's drummer for about twenty years, and the influence shows; he plays with great feeling and has a wonderful song selection. He's a frequent guest of the jazz series at the nearby Smithsonian Institution.
