5 out of 5 stars The Best Lucky Seven in Jazz Fusion World Music.......2003-01-13

I became quite interested in the music and the assortment of
world percussion instruments that Ian offers in both concert
performance, educational enlightenment, and superb recording
work as found on the Night Harvest CD. He takes great care
to offer top notch performing, stimulating arranging of
both jazz classic and world music idioms as well as outstanding
original composition; all the ingredients for a CD that should
find itself spinning quite often for the appreciative ears of
those of us who really acheive fullfillment from a master of his genre.
That also applies to the wonderful lineup of top drawer musicians
who perform in the ensemble along with him. Their individual
talents blend to create a cohesive whole to the body of the
seven pieces on this disc.
It's great to hear the work of a musician who also grew up
in the greater Philadelphia area as I did. His tribute
piece to Wilt Chamberlain is a truly great solo percussion
piece that captures the very essence of the beloved big
dipper. The special arrangements of the great jazz classic
pieces are also quite refeshing to hear and even more enjoyable
if you know the versions by the jazz composer/artists from
earlier recorndings they made.
Every piece on this CD had my headsets glued to my ears.
I listened to it at work the day I picked it up at my
post office box and it was pure dynamite. After hearing
it the first time and finding my brains blown up in shear
pleasure I played it again so I could blow my brains up
again. Its great to have all the sawdust shaken up that
way sometimes.
Recently I received word that Ian was nominated for a
Grammy in the Jazz Fusion/World Percussion catagory so I do
hope that he will get the award because he justly deserves
it. I want to read headlines this year, Ian Dogole receives
Grammy for best Jazz Fusion/World Percussion CD! and Eagles
win Superbowl "37"!
Take my word and get this CD, you'll be absolutely satisfied.

5 out of 5 stars Orca Stroll.......2002-09-06

I recently got turned on to Ian Dogole's "Night Harvest" cd, while driving. I actually, got off the freeway, parked, turned the motor off, and enjoyed the music. This is some of the best music I've heard in years. It's sort of like listening to a combination of Sun Ra, The Jazz Messangers, Olatunji, based in soul, funk, fusion, and jazz. I also play percussion, keyboards, and harmonica and have been practicing along with Ian, over, and over, and over. ...and I'm still not tired of listening. Check it out. ENJOY ! Make more music, Ian!

5 out of 5 stars JAZZ ME AROUND THE WORLD!.......2002-07-06

Percussionist Ian Dogole (former Ancient Future) is joined by some world-class masters on Night Harvest including Oregon's Paul McCandless and Nubian oud player Hamza El Din for some very interesting (and entertaining!) world-flavored workouts on what is essentially traditional jazz material. My favorites are their take on McCoy Tyner's "Message From The Nile" and Thelonius Monk's "Bemsha Swing." Fans of both world music and jazz are wise to check out Dogole's global fusion...
