In the 1950's, Horace Silver, whose funky piano style and catchy originals became quite influential, gave us the modern context of gospel music and rhythm and blues, thus "Soul Jazz". Was in the '50s and '60s, Soul Jazz rose in popularity, creating funky and danceable styles of music. There was so much creativity, to hold an entire audience spellbound, besides that, it was great fun!

Concord presents, Jazz 101 series - Jazz With No Prerequisites, a total of six albums, covering Vocals, Saxophone, Guitar, Latin, Big Band Swing and Soul, with some of the best performances in this genre. Each album is the perfect vehicle, for this "Introduction to Jazz".

Stand outs: "PARKING LOT BLUES", a Ray Brown tune featuring Plas Johnson - "PUT IT WHERE YOU WANT IT" this time Joe Sample's selection, performed by Gene Harris - "THE SILVER STRUT" as Rickey Woodard performs his own composition - "LISTEN HERE" featuring Gene Harris - "HITTING THE ROAD AGAIN" Red Holloway song, with Holloway and Clark Terry Sextet, real swingin' session.

This album is "pure enjoyment" and the "ultimate in Soul Jazz", try it, you just may like it!
