5 out of 5 stars RODNEY IS THE MAN.......1999-04-13

i saw branford marsalis playing the tenor sax recently. as a guitarist, i wondered how could i convey a similar modern jazz language on my instrument? i could only think of one person: RODNEY JONES. oh, rodney! where-for-art-thou new album?!?!?!

5 out of 5 stars The first jazz guitarist to not be lame.......1998-11-24

Rodney Jones is changing the face of jazz forever. He is the only jazz guitarist to sound like a horn player and not like some rehashed nonsense boring, lameo guitar. The world will see more, much more from this man very soon; and when they do, it is time for the aramgeddeon.

5 out of 5 stars the most innovative jazz guitarist in the last 20 years.......1998-11-18

Without Rodney Jones, I wouldn't even play guitar. I have yet to hear another guitarist with such intense phrasing, conception, and articulation. Rodney Jones takes the styles of Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, and George Benson a step further, adding in his own modern approach and unique personality. As a student at Berklee College of Music, the X Field has been a bible to me, showing the possibilities of a more traditional jazz guitar sound in a modern jazz world.

5 out of 5 stars The most innovative guitarist ever........1998-07-18

Rodney Jones is a legend. Those who haven't heard him, are missing out on life. His language is influenced by Wes Montgomery and George Benson, but his concepts are non-guitaristic. He takes guitar and re-invents it. He is the John Coltrane of guitar, and will soon be acknowleged as such.

5 out of 5 stars The new direction in jazz guitar........1998-06-12

Rodney Jones fills many jobs as a guitarist, playing for the Rosie show is only one of them. Beyond his abilities as a working guitarist, Rodney Jones also may be the next step in the evolution of the jazz guitar. The "X" Field is one of the hippest jazz albums to come out in many years and the guitar playing is at times otherworldly. For those guitarists who wish to stretch their idea of how the guitar can be played and for those who wish to watch the progression of the jazz guitar, pick up this album.
