Funky !.......1999-12-01

Heartfelt and inspirational, this CD is everything that's great about jazz. The trumpet solos bring me right smack back into New Orleans, where I grew up, with the smell of chicken and beer in the air and people swaying to the rhythm of the heat on the streets. Highly recommended.

I just heard the entire CD on my local alternative radio station, WESU. The album is really great and I am ordering one ASAP. The soloists are very good, with imaginative solos. The ensemble playing is terrific, with good cohesiveness and interaction. The technical side of the recording is very good as well, clear and well-balanced. Finally the interpretations of Ellington are fresh and spirited, and authentic in a boisterous manner. Highly recommended. (I'm an ethnomusicology doctoral candidate, occasionally a jazz player).
