5 out of 5 stars Miracles happen.......2001-11-24

A compilation of Jose "Cheo" Marquetti's music, drawn from a solo record (Panart) and the better known work he did with Felix Chappottin y sus estrellas. I've been waiting for this CD for years. Marquetti has one of the most beautiful, sad and understated son guajira voices. His versions of Oriente and Amor Verdadero are perhaps the most beautiful Cuban songs ever recorded. In this world of imitations and second-rate revivals, it's good to be reminded how insanely good the old greats were.

5 out of 5 stars CHEO MARQUETTI "EL REY DEL RITMO".......2001-11-15

At long last someone has issued a compilation by the great and nearly forgotten cuban sonero, Cheo Marquetti! The late great Cheo Marquetti was one of old time Cuba's foremost singers, but unfortunately his recordings have become hard or impossible to find in recent decades. During the 50's Cheo recorded with his own conjunto under the direction of composer/guitar player Walfrido Guevara. Some of these recordings have been re-issued on this CD. Cheo also occasionally recorded with groups like Orquesta Sensacion, Rene Alvarez & His Conjunto Los Astros, etc.
Unfortunately Cheo died in 1967, bringing a somewhat premature end to his great singing career.
The acquisition of this CD is a must for all cuban music lovers.
Its a rare musical gem from a great musical era!
