Great straight ahead jazz.......2002-10-09

Robert Jospe gathers togther a band of relatively unknown but very capable musicians on this outing. They all lay down some great grooves propelled by Roberts excellent drumming. I saw this band in DC at Blues Alley and was very impressed by the way they played off each other and Robert. The Michael Brecker tracks are a treat but these guys stand up well enough on their own. This drummer led jazz band is tight and swinging hard and deserves more notice.

This is a collection of mostly latin and caribbean flavored jazz. Jospe's group here are all in sync and sympathetic to the band's goal. There are a few medium-up tempo pieces filled with a lot of excitement and style, as well as some more laid back introspective, yet still definitely latin jazz pieces, including a re-orchestrated version of a wayne shorter tune. Worth noting on this album are the two songs in which michael brecker guest solos. any album with brecker is bound to be a treat, and the rest of the tracks are also well worth it.
