Customer Reviews:
music of the future.......1999-05-30
this is enlightened music of the future world!!!! a real treat to hear!! takes Weather Report to the next evolutionary step. every tune is full of wonderful surprises. highly visionary, funky, and evocative!!!!!
Superb, underheard European (French) fusion........1998-07-04
Sixun has been around for about 10 years and this is their only US released album. The songs feature terrific improvisations by band members and guests such as Michael Brecker. Several Sixun members write their material, so there is quite a lot of stylistic variation. Some of the compositions reflect a Latin, African, or Indian flavoring, but none of them are "token" ethnic endeavors. There are some similarities to the music of Pat Metheny and Weather Report, but again it is not a case of cloning-Sixun are definetly their own band. I heartily recommend them-and this disc- to any fusion fan. Try to seek out import copies of their Euro-released CD's and their solo albums. Lewis Winsberg (guitar) has a recent CD called La Danse du Vent that is terrific. Their keyboardist, Jean-Pierre Como, has a great one called Solea; and their saxophonist Alain Debiossat has a beauty called L'Or du Temps. It's a crime these guys aren't promoted in the US.
