Customer Reviews:
Fusion Reborn.......2005-02-21
This album is top notch from beginning to end and features some of the most superbly composed instrumentals I've ever heard.
Just getting warmed up..........2003-05-22
If you are music lover, don't miss these guys!!
not the best.......2001-03-05
Tight Grooves, and some catchy tunes. Some of the jamming goes on way too long for the amount of content that it actually consists of. The rhythm section sounds great, the keyboard solos are pretty cool, if a bit slow, but the guitar player doesn't really demonstrate any knowledge of jazz harmony, which is important in this kind of music. He plays flute and sax too, which is nice, but his flute solo on track 3 sounds like any of his guitar solos. Too bad, this could otherwise be a pretty smokin' band.
Schleigho does it again.......2000-12-31
Let me start by saying that this is Schleigho's fourth CD (why aren't the rest available on Amazon.com?). Once again they do stuff completely different than on their previous albums. Their second album "Farewell to the Sun" has five out of the seven tracks with vocals, and the album has no fusion/jazz feel to it at all, it is just a very dark, brooding CD. The third CD "In the Interest of Time" goes the complete opposite path. Much of the music sounds a lot like Herbie Hancock/Billy Cobham fusion. There are two tracks with vocals (which are minimal). On "Continent" their sound is really unique. There are no vocals at all. A staple of Schleigho's sound is the avoidance of 4/4 time. This album is no exception to that. On this CD the bass and drums have awesome motives that are just repeated throughout each piece (of course with decoration and variation). Listening to "Sumo" I just think to myself, "boy I have never heard any music as ballsy as this." This album is not for everyone. Those who cringe at the sound of dissonance, stay away. Those who like a more funk/jazz approach, check out their CD "In the Interest of Time", then get "Continent"
freshly complex.......2000-08-17
Just listened to this new album straight through and as it recycled back to track one, I had no desire to hit stop or look for another disk. Track one played on, enjoyable as the first listen. These guys have cultivated a sound that respectfully nods to the masters of jazz funk/fusion and goes well beyond to showcase each musician's unique signatures and ideas. 'Continent' holds down a solid groove throughout, but the discerneable listener will enjoy the complex brew and subtle flavors, notably the work by Gibbon's on the Fender Rhodes. If you're tired of warmed over 'funky jazz jam bands' Schleigho provides a breath of fresh air. Continent is a solid disk worthy of consistent rotation in the disk player.
