Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Oscar at his best.......2002-03-15

This concert is unique. The listing here does not list the rest of the trio that is the key to it's greatness. With Oscar are Louie Bellson and John Heard. The recording is particularly clear and this only enhances the talents of top players.
Tempo is a key factor in the lively Cute, and Sweet Georgia Brown. There isn't a drummer around that had the chops to play this tempo, keeping up with Oscar's technique and crispness. I once asked Louie Bellson about this album and he remembered it fondly. He said each night Oscar would kick off the tune, faster every night. He really had a ball playing it and is a true lesson for drummers to hear. Louies brush work is also superb. And don't count out bassist John Heard. A quiet man and very skilled and tasty player who keeps up with the two giants. I heartily recommend this to really tap the toes.
