5 out of 5 stars Looking for Michael Ray :)) Remembering a good lost Friend .......2004-10-23

Many Years ago ,in the 80,s I went on this , as I called it , " Out of Space " Tour in Europe with
SUN RA ARKESTRA .
If You still didn,t hear about Sun Ra ? It,s time to do so since I would call him just a "CLASSIC" and for sure UNIQUE

Browsing the Internet , I just remebered those Days visiting my Friends in Philly . Sun Ra was still alive and I guess I was one of the few Women he allowed to come around , the first who would get even on HIS Tourbus ! What an Honor :))

I met Michael Ray, his trumpet Player first on one of many Kool & Gang Tours where we got the major VIP Treatment par Excellance . No wonder ! They were on Top of their Career. 2 times sold out with each 16 000 Seats at the Bercy Stadium in Paris !

It was quite different with Sun Ra,s Band and Tour . Oh well . They played in every little german Village and it was so much fun listening to these fab and unique, true Musicans and their Performance. What a Trip ! It was one of the most amazing ONE in my whole Tour Manager Life .

With massivevibrations I intend to bring up old memories with great Musicians I toured with for many years and look out for new Talents and support what I feel is worth to talk about !

The Artists I toured with such as : James Brown, Jimi Cliff, Curtis Blow:)) ,Chaka Khan ,Percey Sledge,CAMEO,MAZE and Franky Beverly,Commodores,Stanley Clarke, Miles Davis, Al di Meola, uuughhhhhh cant remember them all ,Mothers Finest ,Femi Kuti, Kid Creole and the Coconuts,Black Uhuru and many more .......

MY LOVE GOES OUT TO ALL THESE GUYS AGAIN :))

Pls send us your Experience with great Musicians !

Support massivevibrations
and really good Music and Musicians from NOW and THEN !

OM SWASTYASTU

Yours Silvie

5 out of 5 stars Spacey:Funk of the Future.......2002-05-10

This cd is a reflection of total music experience: the past, the now, the future. A great effort by a great trumpet player. I look forward to the next flight into space. Space is the place. I am glad to have had the pleasure of playing music with Michael Ray.
He has always been at the front of creative ideas. Peace.

5 out of 5 stars Joyful return of Michael Ray.......2001-06-27

I love this record. Not just because I am a fan of Sun Ra and, living in Philadelphia, had the opportunity to see the Arkestra in some very intimate settings. Whenever Michael was in the line-up (as he usually was, when I saw the band), he had a stand-out personality. A glow about him. It was clear that he was not only a master of the trumpet, but loved to "play" in every sense of the word. This record is not a simple rehash of Sun Ra, although he is well tributed, nor of Kool & the Gang (with whom Michael spent some time). This is a burst of joyful music. The strong New Orleans influence is a blast. I just smile when I listen to this. It's great music to clean to. Great to listen to spacing out under the stars. Works great at parties. I can't think of a setting in which it would fail. This is jazz funk at it's best.

4 out of 5 stars High energy modern jazz with a funky twist........1998-05-01

Former Sun Ra Arkestra trumpeter Michael Ray bills his music as "Jazz-Funk of the Future," and I'd have to say that was pretty accurate. For the most part, this is a serious jazz recording, which takes an Earth, Wind and Fire style detour in places, as well as the beguiling New Orleans funk style of "Beans and Rice." One interesting feature of this recording is the intelligent, swinging use of steel drums along with the more conventional jazz instrumentation of trumpet, alto sax, trombone, piano and rythm section. All musicians on this recording are very sharp performers, and Michael Ray can flat out play a trumpet. A CD that cries out for a follow-up.
