5 out of 5 stars Remembering a good Friend : Michael Ray.......2004-10-23

Many Years ago ,in the 80,s I went on this , as I
called it , " Out of Space " Tour in Europe with
SUN RA ARKESTRA . (If You still didn,t hear
about Sun Ra ? It,s time to do so since I would
call him just a "CLASSIC" and for sure UNIQUE )

Browsing the Internet , I just remebered those
Days visiting my Friends in Philly . Sun Ra was
still alive and I guess I was one of the few Women
he allowed to come around , the first who would
get even on HIS Tourbus ! What an Honor :))

I met Michael Ray, his trumpet Player first on one
of many Kool & Gang Tours where we got the
major VIP Treatment par Excellance . No wonder !
They were on Top of their Career. 2 times sold
out with each 16 000 Seats at the Bercy Stadium
in Paris !

It was quite different with Sun Ra,s Band and
Tour . Oh well . They played in every little german
Village and it was so much fun listening to these
fab and unique, true Musicans and their
Performance. What a Trip ! It was one of the most
amazing ONE in my whole Tour Manager Life .

With massivevibrations I intend to bring up old
memories with great Musicians I toured with for
many years and look out for new Talents and
support what I feel is worth to talk about !

The Artists I toured with such as : James Brown,
Jimi Cliff, Curtis Blow:)) ,Chaka Khan ,Percey
Sledge,CAMEO,MAZE and Franky
Beverly,Commodores,Stanley Clarke, Miles
Davis, Al di Meola, uuughhhhhh cant remember
them all . ...................Mothers Finest ,Femi Kuti,
Kid Creole and the Coconuts ...........Black Uhuru,

MY LOVE GOES OUT TO ALL THESE GUYS
AGAIN :))

Pls send us your Experience with great
Musicians !

Support massivevibrations
and really good Music and Musicians from NOW
and THEN !

5 out of 5 stars Eclectic Jazz/Funk.......1999-10-11

Just look at the cover of this CD. Does Michael Ray look like he is having a good time? I think so. Looking very much like Sun Ra who Ray happened to play with for many years, he certainly is as colorful a performer as his bright garb would indicate. Ray's 25 year track record is very impressive. Some of the people he had the pleasure of jamming with were Patti LaBelle, The Delfonics, The Stylistics and a 10 year stint with Kool and the Gang. Sun Ra designated him as the "Intergalactic Research Tone Scientist". The master of space/funk/jazz knew what he was doing by employing Michael. Ray and his cosmic krewe most recently received the Gambit Weekly's Big Easy Entertainment Award for Best Funk Band of 1999. Bountiful experience and many years on the road has brought this talented artist to a point in his career were a recording like this is bound to raise some eyebrows and catapult him into star status. All the success and respect that follows will just sweeten the pie. This man has built a solid reputation already. This stage of his career puts him in the limelight, and rightfully so. "Funk If I Know" explores the many moods and facets of Ray's music. On one track you are getting all funky then the next you are grooving on some hip hop, the next track offers up some big band or contemporary jazz. A real round trip around the Jazz galaxy and all it's sub-genres. To say the least this is a very eclectic smorgasbord of jazz and funk with many different elemental sprinkles to give it some added flavor and taste. This CD doesn't fall short in any areas. Hop aboard the spaceship Ray and let his cosmic krewe take you to a musical universe that you have never visited, you won't want to come home...

5 out of 5 stars Scintillating Trumpet and Saxaphone driven Jazz-Funk........1999-02-13

A dazzling array of top Jazz and Rock names, including Bob Gulotti, Stacey Starkweather, Tim Green, Clarence Johnson III and Adam Klipple as well as special guests John Medeski and Trey Anastasio (phish) contribute to former Sun Ra and Kool and the Gang trumpeteer's follow-up album. A great blend of straight funk (almost P-funk like on the first track "cosmic city") to top notch latin jazz to cutting edge space jazz. It has something for everyone and everything for most.
