5 out of 5 stars Jersey Girl with exotic looks.......2006-07-14

Machan Taylor looks and sounds exotic and excitingly different. A sweet New Jersey girl with a beautiful euroasian look. She is the kind of girl I wish I knew. Her decidely different Brazillian sway on the cover of The Assocation's "Never My Love" is very nice. Her own compositions are equally interesting. Especially "Brazilian Heart", "Speak Low" and "You're My Joy" Every cut on the album is a nice little gem. Which cannot not be said for many a singer. This is a CD I highly reccomend. My only concern is that it has been some time since this was released. I do not notice her listed on the label's artists. I hope she hasn't faded away, because I am eagerly looking forward to her next recordings.

4 out of 5 stars The 1st two tracks send me swinging........2005-09-27

Hiroshima's lead vocalist has a nice CD here. Stylish and graceful, all tracks are produced well. This is in my car right now.

5 out of 5 stars Pure Class!.......2004-04-05

Machan delivers a smooth mix of classically styled jazz numbers that leaves the listener begging for more. Her vocal range is tremendous and the session players are perfect. Machan is talented (...) and savvy enough to surround herself with musicians who match her skill at every turn. Buy it...Listen...and Enjoy. You won't be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Slightly over-polished Braziliana........2004-03-18

Unlike so many other vocalists doing Brazilian-influenced material, Machan manages to stay on key -- all the time! (Maybe there's a legacy begun by Antonio Carlos Jobim himself that sets wobbly vocals as de rigeur in this genre? See Ana Caram.) That said, Machan exudes total comfort with the material. Her session musicians nearly slip into the "smooth-chads" category, but seem to know when to bust the cliches. I'd probably put Machan very close to Eden Atwood in terms of style, class, and feel. An easy listen, without being "easy listening" music.
