Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars RayO is a national treasure.......2003-08-14

Living in the SF Bay area I have been able to hear Ray Obiedo live for many years. He and the quality musicians he attracts are something special to my heart and mind. I love the concept that he has created... it makes my heart sing. The current album hits the mark. When I picked it up at the jazz festival his son was man-ing the table selling cd's and man what a great kid. He showed a wonderful liveliness and enthusiasm that reflects on his mother and dad. For my money anything from the Obiedo "tribe" is golden. Also, check out Sticks and Stones for the phenomenal work of Kenny Kirkland.

4 out of 5 stars correcting Genre.......2003-04-25

At times when music is reviewed we as "public" reviewers tend to forget what genre music we are reviewing or perhaps are expecting something else to be heard from what we are listening to. Such is a dilemma with "smooth "Jazz. Labelled as Jazz could be a misnomer, in which lies the dilemma. But saying that, on the other hand there are varying levels or styles of " Jazz" and this type of music that Mr. Obiedo offers definitely falls into the smooth Jazz category, as it so is called. Nothing more, nothing less. So it is unfair to give a poor rating on an artist`s work after listening expecting to hear something which the artist in question is not the style he/she is presenting, or maybe what the artist wants to present to his buying fans. Ray Obiedo presents Latin influenced smooth Jazz. Just nice rhythmic, mostly instrumental, melodious, tuneful, at times subdued "Jazz" music. Which if your a Smooth Jazz listener you should enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars wonderfull modern world of smooth jazz.......1999-08-31

with this late produccion oviedo stablis himself as a inventive smooth jazzist. Good arrangement, beatiful melodies and a perfect sound. This is music to listen for and to make youself feeling the magic of colours sounds.

5 out of 5 stars This is what smooth jazz is all about........1999-08-16

This latest effort by Ray Obiedo is basically a continuation of his last CD, "Sweet Summer Days", which was excellant in its own right. This current CD, "Modern World", is what smooth jazz is all about. The compositions are creative, and the music is smooth and relaxing. Additionally, the recording is very clean. Ray has established his own style of music which is pleasantly recognizable. If you are a Ray Obiedo fan, buy this CD. If you are not, buy it anyway, and you'll most likely become a fan, and buy his entire catalog. This is definitely music for baby boomers.
