Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Intelligent musician who's been around the other smart guys........2006-08-02

I first encountered him listening to AIR in the 80s. Smart serious guy. The Jazz musicians know he's smart. He's been around.

Successfully bridging the gap between listenable and avante guarde, with a pinch of harmelodic theory thrown in this is a solid record. Should not be selling for $4 right now. I guarantee this is a better bet than the stock market. Buy this out of print CD now and I guarantee that in 10 years the price of a copy will astound you.

This CD is in the collection of the hippest people in New York and all the other cosmopolitans in search of the new. All of the hippest musicians listen to this with respect. I'm gonna salt mine away. May even buy a few more at these prices.

4 out of 5 stars Great place to start.......2002-01-30

I had heard Threadgill's name bouncing around before I bought this album, but seeing guitarist James Emery's name on the roster, (and the cool cover), clinched it for me. The album does not suffer from the overproduction that I feel happens when Bill Laswell involves himself in any project. The texture is nicely layered and everyone plays out, but with an undeniable cohesivness. It's worth spending the $12 sum just for track two which begins with a great drum solo, transforms into melodic mayhem, and rotates around a motif which sounds like a post Barrett Pink Floyd flag waver wich actually sounds good.
