Amazing CD of a great band.......2005-06-28

I have the honor to be close friends with David "Pope" Firman who plays the base on this great cd. I love putting this disc on whenI have a dinner party or just need to relax. "Pope" can also be found playing with Ben Harper on the track Suzie Blue on the cd Burn to Shine.

Stompin' and Swingin'!.......2004-03-11

New Metropolitan Swing is simply fantastic! I too, love their swingin' rendition of "Stardust". Another favorite of mine is "Stompin' at Decca". If you like Reinhardt and Grappelli, you'll love hearing Pearl Django play their modern version of jazz hot! :)

Reinventing Swing.......2001-02-19

I am a jazz guitarist who once had the mind-jolting experience of jamming with Pearl Django's guitarist Neil Anderson. The beautifully-constructed and angular solos were astonishing and I could hear the tell-tale influence of Django on his playing. Years later, one of my students showed me this recording - New Metroplotitan Swing - and I was anxious to hear Neil's band (I'd not even realized they had recorded). The music on this disc is infectious and swinging throughout. I played it over and over again. The original compositions were strong and the choice of covers fitting. The surprise here is that the other guitarist in the band is a strong soloist as well, and his Charlie Christian-inspired solos compliment Neil's work. I recommend this recording to others whole-heartedly! A particular favorite of mine is the band's treatment of "Stardust", where they manage to reinvent swing music with a passion.

Pearl Django's Metropoitan Swing is the number 1 CD I give as a gift to friends and family. I can listen to it over and over and never tire of the great music in this package. It has some old and some new and all of it is performed with excellence by outstanding musicians.Every song on it is my favorite.
