Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars how high can sonny be?.......2004-01-14

Last time I heard that rippin' 4 measures stitt plays out front of how high the moon was on a warped LP in college. My friends and i were checking sides and couldn't stop listening to that cut. So pleased to find it again on CD.

5 out of 5 stars Sonny's burnin'.......2001-01-03

I've been looking for this reissue for years now, and I'm glad to see that someone saw fit to release some of Sonny's best playing in the classic piano quartet setting. Many of the selections on this disc are from an original release called "Burnin'." If memory serves me correctly it was on Argo. What stands out here is that Sonny is for once in synch with his rhythm section, making for a very satisfying and competent performance throughout. To make mention of Sonny's saxophonic pyrotechnics would be a pleonasm at this point. Suffice it to say, unlike other and less forunate Stitt/Rhythm section collaborations, this one is smooth and harmonious with all the pieces falling into place. If you like Stitt, this reissue is a must for your collection and stands among his most worthwhile recordings.
