Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Warning for Keezer fans.......2004-06-27

I had never heard of Keezer before and bought this CD as a cut-out. I loved it so much that I immediately checked out his other recordings. What a surprise. This is *very* different than his other work. Not just the fact that it is a solo, but the also the approach taken in the compositions and style of playing. As much as I love this CD, I'll probably not buy any of his others. It's that different. So if you are a long time Keezer fan, give a listen before you buy. But I hope you'll keep an open mind, this is great stuff.

4 out of 5 stars a different bag altogether.......2000-02-27

I've always been a big fan of Geoff ever since I heard him on the "Live at Sweet Basil" disc, a live recording with the Art Farmer Quintet. I've followed him ever since, and have seen him three times with the Ray Brown Trio. He's really got his own unique vision, and is not afraid to explore it on his own albums. "Turn Up the Quiet" and "Other Spheres" were much, much different from your typical straight-ahead jazz fare, and this solo outing is no exception. He includes a few standard tunes--"Bloodcount", "Footprints", and "Black and Tan Fantasy"--but most of the tunes are originals, or spur-of-the-moment improvisations. I *really* like his renditions of Bjork's "Venus as a Boy" and Radiohead's "Let Down." Overall, Geoff continues to show that he's developing his artistry--he's proven that he can rip it up within the conventional "jazz" idiom, yet it's encouraging to see him continue venturing into new territory. A solid effort and well worth checking out.

5 out of 5 stars Go, Keezer!.......2000-01-28

Geoff Keezer has really done it this time! He has made a solo piano jazz record that actually blows away all previous efforts! Even 'Turn Up Quiet' with Redman and Krall. I especially dig his take on Radiohead's 'Let Down' and Bjork's 'Venus'. The self-penned 'Hypnagong' is also quite good. Do check this out. A jazz record for the ages!
