5 out of 5 stars Simply tremendous!.......2002-12-11

I would rate this as one of those "If I got stranded on a desert island what albums would I want..." albums. If you don;t find yourself moved by "Peace", or blown away by "Blowin' the Blues Away" then you are just not a jazz fan. I don;t think anyone put together such seamless bands as Silver. His alumni included the Brecker Brothers, Joe Henderson, and many more. He still plays, and if you get to see him live, donlt miss him!

4 out of 5 stars excellent of the beginning of the hard bop era........1999-09-21

this album has something for everyone. If ballads is what you want, try Peace. Straight hard bop, give a listen to Baghdad Blues or Sister Sadie. Horace also comes correct with the trio side, The St. Vitus Dance. This is the album where Horace was starting to find his sound. A Must have!

5 out of 5 stars Hot!.......1998-08-23

Horace Silver flows like no one else. This is my favorite HS studio album bar none. His fluid soloing is outdone by his furious comping behind the excellent Blue Mitchell on trumpet. Fast and funky most of the time, but the ballads hold their own. If you're just getting into Jazz or are already an afficianado, this is a must have album. P.S. If you can find the out-of-print "Live at the Village Gate" buy it too.
