Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Brotzmann needs to be heard!.......2005-06-14

This has to be one of the least accessible, most intense, and loudest recordings I have ever heard in my life. It's amazing the level of ferocity the musicians produce. Brotzmann's alternately growling and screeching tenor saxophone solos show that he has got to have some of the most powerful lungs on Earth. On the title track, the musicians are Peter Brotzmann and Evan Parker on tenor sax, Derek Bailey on guitar, Fred Van Hove on piano, Buschi Niebergall on bass, and Han Bennink on drums. On the second and third tracks, however, Parker and Bailey leave to strip the group down to a quartet.
My favorite part on this whole CD is the beginning of the third track. Van Hove starts off playing a nice simple chord pattern, with Niebergall and Bennink coming in in that order, and they have a nice little grove going for about 30 seconds, then Peter Brotzmann comes in with some cool sax, and by the 2-minute mark it's absolute chaos and continues like that either till it ends or you turn it off wondering what the heck just came out of your stereo.
If you are a free jazz or avant-jazz or word-created-by-music-critics-so-they-can-appear-smart-jazz fan then you should buy this record or you will be so disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2003-06-17

1st off, the main difference i can hear between this and the '1st' nipples session, is how much more prominent derek bailey's guitar is in the mix...much more forceful, and a much bigger component of the 'picture' these gents have created. otherwise, this is just as amazing as the other record, though nothing touches the ferocity of the title track from the first record.
