This was my second CD for Concord I wanted to call it "Things Ain't What They Used To Be", But Concord thought that sounded negative, and Maynard said there was a tune with that name. Staying with my love for the trio, Maynard and I chose Steve Swallow on bass and Adam Nussbaum on drums.

At the time I was playing quite often with Adam in Europe, but not in a trio. What can I say about Adam? He plays like he is, full of life, joie de vive, bon vivant! I knew we would play great together and I had to have him for this CD. You'll hear what I mean when you listen to him play on "Guess Again".

I played with Steve once before when I was touring with Gary Burton. I just love him. I even wanted to do a duo with him. Steve has a very personal sound. It's just the way he plays, the way he swings, the way he plays in the trio. When I'm touring and somebody (who loved my first CD) looks at "Time Lines" and says "Oh it's electric bass, too bad" I feel like they are missing out and I want to tell them to open their mind and they will discover something wonderful. I understand their thinking because I was like this too. Because I never heard anyone like Steve. Sound wise OK! Acoustic bass can have an incredible sound, but Steve sings on electric and is incredibly musical.

I love this CD for many reasons. Mainly the music was flowing! It was flowing from everyone! We did some takes and I remember thinking Wow I can't do better than that! We can't do better than that! We were all happy with it, it was like Wow fun! And on top of that I was really happy with the mix. The whole thing swings.

I look back on this recording and think, "Wow that was a great moment in my life and it all happened in three days"

Thank you for purchasing this CD and check out my latest Christian Jacob Trio CD "Styne & Mine". ~ Best Wishes Christian Jacob

I was in a college record library the other day. And just for the heck of it, I listened to something by a singer named Tierney Sutton. And I was transfixed by her piano player. Who IS this guy? And why isn't he better-known? (I almost felt compelled to beat myself up for having been completely ignorant of him until now.)
