Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Bookends.......2006-05-20

This is the end of the line, of course. Flim and the BBs are no more, and will probably never record again. What a shame.

Their work was one-of-a-kind. Its startling blend of an insistence on technical excellence, innovation and sheer creativity has never been matched since.

Some denigrate this stuff as studio musicianship or, horrors, just "smooth jazz." Often overlooked is that nothing here is derivative. Virtually all the cuts are original compositions and deserve your attention.

These guys are just amazing, and no collection is complete without their work in it.

5 out of 5 stars Happy Jazz.......2001-07-30

I like to call it "Happy Jazz" because works great for bad moods and headaches. I never get tired of a BB's CD.

5 out of 5 stars an absolute must-have.......2000-07-27

With this inevitable "Best Of" collection, the career of Flim & the BBs is bookended. The playlist is a broad sampling of the group's recorded history and features two never-before-released selections. This CD illustrates their smooth, jazz-pop efforts, punctuated by the sharp, detailed production that made this band the original digital musical organization.

Originally coming together to help test prototype digital recording equipment, F&TBBs, from the very first, joined gentle, hook-laden melodies with stellar musicianship to create a new synthesis of jazz, pop, and easy listening. If Steely Dan brought jazz to rock, then F&TBBs brought jazz to everybody else.

If you appreciate the highest-level production values, this release is an absolute must-have, and an ultimate test-the-speakers CD. For the live music aficionado, the expressive interplay of the players is worthy of countless hearings.

The only down side to having this CD in your library is that you'll have to somehow find and buy the rest of their mostly out-of-print catalog to find out what you're missing.
