And then there are three more songs... they all share this fantastic balance between composition, arrangement and solos, with the distinct personalities in the octet pushing, pulling and blending. (Most of them, like Henry Threadgill, Craig Harris and Olu Dara, are unique bandleaders in their own rights.)

David Murray has recorded dozens of albums in duos, quartets, octets, big bands and other formats. He has made some great music over the years. This one is very near the top of his many achievements, and one of the all-time best, period.
