Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars no, no, no.......2006-11-24

I just didn't like this album at all. Brecker is a very good trumpeter and improviser, with an impressive, virtuosic style very much like Clifford Brown's; but the arrangements of these tunes are corny, synthetic, and heavily overproduced. I find the whole mess saccharine and hopelessly lame. While I'm not quite prepared to go to Wynton Marsalis' extreme of anathematizing any and all jazz musicians who use electric instruments and incorporate elements of rock and roll, in this case I nevertheless find myself pretty much on the same page as him: pass this album by and look for a disc of good classic, acoustic jazz instead. The Clifford Brown-Max Roach quintet presents the same style of soloing as Brecker, but also sophisticated tunes, masterful arrangements, and an aesthetically meangingful timbre and ensemble.

3 out of 5 stars not groundbreaking, but lots of fun.......2005-10-14

There are many great recordings that display Randy's terrific talent as a composer and improviser.

This one is more of a nice collection of tunes, nicely arranged with a lot of brazil mixed in. Gil Goldstein does a great job with the production and keyboards. It's really is an enjoyable disc to listen to. Some of the tunes remind me of some of those early Brecker Brothers melodies...

The guest appearance by old Brecker band pal Dave Sanborn is a bonus...

4 out of 5 stars AWESOME CD for smooth jazz lovers!!!.......1999-02-05

This CD is an excellent mix of brazilian and smooth jazz. I'm not a brazilian jazz person per se but the way he has put this together you don't really want to call it Braziian it's this hypnotic mix that makes EVERY TRACK worth savoring. Anita
