Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Blander isn't better.......2006-02-17

I certainly agree with majority of reviewers that this is an impeccably played & delivered product. The problem?-it's quite, quite boring. While not without its charms (Coco la Mer moves pretty well & Clouds is a tuneful number), smoothness runs into blandness pretty quickly & this definitely lacks the spirit & groove of "Identity".Siva has a bucketload of talent & hopefully will stretch out more on upcoming product(s)

1 out of 5 stars One Horrible CD.......2005-12-21

This CD is filled with boring, uninspired, bad vocalized songs. It is nothing like Identity. I was very disappointed. This one is headed to the used CD store for another unsuspecting fan of Samantha to waste his/her money on purchasing. Sorry fans...it's just no good. I don't know what some of these people were listening to who gave it five stars!

5 out of 5 stars A musical buffet!.......2003-03-13

Siva is a songwriter/producer/performer who does so many things so well as to defy description. It's hard to imagine that a single talent could create a ballad like "You Inspire Me" that Stevie Wonder would be proud to have written one moment and a primal romp like "Wild" that echoes Dead Can Dance the next. As her collection of jazz collaborators grows (this time adding the late, wonderful Bob Berg), Siva infuses "Masquerade" with the same spirit of musical discovery as her earlier discs. "Coco La Mer" has a smooth, tropical vibe, while "Sugar" hints at a jazzier Janet Jackson. On occasion her musical influences surface perhaps too clearly, but Siva makes every song special and uniquely hers. And the fact that radio can't seem to figure her out (who's gonna play a song as dreamy and exotic as "Clouds"?) somehow makes this discovery even more rewarding. I'd say this disc is her best, but it's really just different.

5 out of 5 stars Masquerade.......2003-03-12

"Masquerade" is a celebration of life inspired by passion and a love of all things eclectic and cosmopolitan. Samantha Siva does a good job of getting the message across as she blends jazz and soul with European/Latin flavors. If you like Sade, you will enjoy the title track, which leaves you wanting to push repeat to play it again.

Famed musicians such as world-renowned pianist David Benoit, tenor saxophonist Richard Elliott, guitarist Chieli Minucci and drummer Poogie Bell all contribute nicely to this project.

"Masquerade" shows a multitalented Siva as she progresses as a multiinstrumentalist, producer, vocalist and songwriter. "Answer to Your Soul" is catchy and upbeat, while "Sugar" blends a touch of R&B flavor with sensual overtones.

All tracks seem hypnotic in nature, and Siva doesn't confine herself to any musical style as she seeks to blend contemporary sounds with her soulful, sultry vocals.

"Masquerade" is a happy, joyful experience, and Siva invites you to join and experience the freedom she has.

5 out of 5 stars Good Easy Listening.......2003-03-12

I was pleasantly surprised with this CD. Although some songs are somewhat Sade like, the lyrics are really good and it's great when I just want to unwind, with enough uptempo to keep it interesting. Favorites include: Poquita di Paraguana, Coco La Mer and Clouds. The others are pretty good, too. Coco La Mer's even got a french verse in it. If you like international jazzy music I'd definitely recommend buying this CD whether you're new to Samantha Siva or an old fan. She has several good ballads too, and keeps it interesting.
