Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very very nice.......2003-09-07

This, which was Dave's first solo recording in 40 years, is an excellent album. A nice range of tunes played by a brilliant (and under-rated) pianist. As good as it is, the subsequent "One Alone" is even better. Buy both now! :-D

5 out of 5 stars A Classic Solo Performance.......2000-09-19

It took about 40 years for Dave Brubeck to get around to releasing a new solo recording. After listening to this, the first questions that come to mind are; what took so long ? and, what have we missed out on ?

This is a simply spectacular peformance that showcases Brubeck's talent in all its aspects. In addition to the classic Brubeck style that many fans are familiar with, you'll also see glimpses of the other influences on this style including a clear and unmistakable allusion to his training classical music sprinkled throughout the recording. At the same time, however, Brubeck clearly shows that he is, at heart, a jazz musician and the improvisational variations on "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime ?" are, in my opinion, among the finest examples of solo piano jazz on record.

Another essential Brubeck recording, and another classic from a man who's produced many.

5 out of 5 stars Brings back lots of great memories!.......1999-10-05

Fabulous performances by Brubeck, Joe Morello and Paul Desmond. Favorite tracks, Strange Meadowlark and Briar Bush. Saw the quartet in England in the late 50's and early '60's. If your a serious jazz fan, this is a cd not to be overlooked
