Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars a gem from an underrated band.......2005-08-02

why the john kirby sextet is not better known is a complete mystery to me. they had all the style, talent and heart of any big band out there. and even though i grew up with a grandfather who taught me to love big band jazz, it took listening to don byron's "bug music" to finally find john kirby. as he says, they were brave, sophisticated and made up of some of the finest african-american jazz players of the period. give it a try - you won't be disappointed.
