As far as "smooth jazz" goes this is one of the best albums by George Howard or any saxophonist in this genre. Can listen to from beginning to end without getting bored. Good chill out CD.

Put together talent, artistry, and feel good music. This is what George Howard brought to his work.

The opening cut "Just The Way I Feel" is uptempo and melodic. It's a "feel good" song. The vocals in this album are very fine with James Ingram, Phil Perry, and Carl Anderson, to name a few. "Try Again" is a fine ballad with George Howard's sax taking the lead over the vocals. "Cross Your Mind" is a beautiful and soulful ballad with George Howard not only on sax but lead vocal. His voice is tender and smooth. This is one of my very favorites. "Stay Here With Me" is a funky, upbeat song. "Shadow" is another one of my favorites on this album. It has infectious soulful energy. "Jo Jo" is cool jazz.

This album made #3 in the Top Contemporary Jazz Albums category. It can rival any of the smooth sax albums out there today on the radio. If you love smooth jazz, this one is worth having in your collection.

This is probably my favorite album by the late great George Howard, a successor in spirit to Grover Washinston Jr. George Howard definitely infuses his music with a hip vibe that will keep your feet tapping. While the title track is a tender ballad, most of his music is funky and soulful. This is the place to start if you have not listened to George Howard.

This is probably one of the first jazz albums I ever bought. That was a long time ago. I loved it then, and even though I haven't listened to it for a long time, I still do. I have become infatuated with the music of John Coltrane, one of the greatest jazz saxophonists to have ever lived. His music is very different from anything that can be called "Smooth" or "Contemporary" jazz. I have come to hate the two "sub-genres" above. You may as well call it elevator music and get on with it. Still, despite my disgust for the jazz you hear on the radio today, George Howard's smooth jazz Soprano playing is exquisite on this release. He hardly improvises at all on any of the songs, something that may disgust jazz purists, but the songs themselves are so good that it doesn't matter. In the case of an artist like George Howard going off in a tangent like someone such as Coltrane would would not suit the music at all. Contemporary/smooth jazz lover or not, this is one of the greatest jazz cd's of the 90's. Every song is great, almost too good. I like it. I like it a lot. Howard even plays EWI (Electronic wind instrument) on the African tinged "Spirit." Truly a fine cd.
