Customer Reviews:
A Soulful Soul Serenade.......2005-06-01
This is the only place to find 23 tracks of the King's soulful Atlantic instumental recordings. When it comes to Yankty Sax Soul, Curtis wrote the book. These are primarily instumental workings of contempory material by the likes of Lennon & McCatney, "Let It Be", Robbie Robertson, "The Weight", Liber & Stoller, "Spanish Harlem", Sly Stone, "Sing A Simple Song" and Stevie Wonder, "I Was Made To Love Her".
As you may well know King Curtis met his end in 1970, murdered right in front of his New York apartment house. The man with the impecable pharsing and inimitable soulful wail is sorely missed. But he certainly left behind a legacy of beauitful and classic recordings. This Razor & Tie Anthology is the best single disc to get into a soulful Soul Serenade. Wail on King. We surely will never hear your likes again!
How could this one go out of print???.......2001-07-10
I remember when this came out in 1994; I was ecstatic. King Curtis' music prior to that had been annoyingly hard to find. At least nowadays they're re-releasing some of his stuff (Live At Fillmore West; Have Tenor Sax, Will Blow/Live At Small's Paradise, et al.). This particular cd provided a pretty good overview of his career. Petition Razor & Tie to reissue this one. They are supposed to be a reissue label, after all.
