5 out of 5 stars Let It Blow.......2005-07-01

This is an outstanding set, ear candy from first to last. "Twilight" came out in 2001. I purchased in among a large quantity of CDs late in '03 from a going-out-of-business sale. Unfortunately for me, it took me almost another 2 years to get it in the changer. Yikes! What an absolute blast! The opener "Joyful" has this Venezuelan-born Florida-based musician on tenor & soprano saxes on his own composition. It explodes with a suave enticing beat, dedicated to the birth of his son. The closer "Strut" is equally delightful with Calle's saxy swagger cutting the rug. In between, he offers a glorious cover of Neil Sedaka's 1974 #1 hit "Laughter in the Rain" with its familiar lovely melody. None of the other tracks can be called filler from the lovely "Sari's Song" to the aptly titled "Spanish Rose." I haven't been this pleased with an instrumental jazz CD since Michael McGoldrick's "Fused." This is a gem! Let it blow! Bravo!

I wasn't familiar with Ed Calle until you listed Twilight in my recommendations. All the songs on the CD have that soft, sensual tone that make it great to listen to when turning the lights down low or just needing to relax. This is one of those CDs that won't disappoint you.

5 out of 5 stars Hauntingly Beautiful.......2001-09-10

Twilight is the first cd of Ed Calle I had the pleasure to own having had the album given to me as a gift. Its one of those albums that entrance you from the first moment its played. Its really one of those albums that you dont tire of and from the first moment you hear it you know you made an excellent choice in its purchase. I dont know why but when I play mine I'm always reminded of my holidays in Italy and those warm, balmy evenings sitting in a lake side restaurant and watching the sun set. Maybe its the latino influence in some of the tracks, particularly tracks 7 & 8. Mr Calle really does have a style of his own and the particular passion he uses with his saxophone is quite beautiful - he truely is blessed with a most wonderful gift. My own particular favourite track is Sari's Song (11), it always makes me quite emotional and the moment the Miami Symphonic Strings kick in really does leave a lump in the throat especially when you think that it was composed for his wife on their anniversary.

Truely wonderful - thank you Ed!!

5 out of 5 stars "reflects prowess & passion as a musician".......2001-03-15

Miami based saxophonist Ed Calle owes his musical career to his father's love of music - so much that young Calle took music lessons when moving to the United States in 1966, he took to the saxophone like a duck takes to water.

Calle's passionate saxophone sounds have graced countless recordings, he is one of the most exciting and creative musicians in Smooth jazz and Contemporary music today. There is a love of singable melodies and infectiously funky grooves, which appear through memorable compositions that inspire and send his soaring saxophone playing - this his latest release for Concord Vista.

If you've enjoyed this album you can also hear his first Concord release - "Sunset Harbor" (CCD-4856-2), watch for "Jam Miami PBS Special" airing nationwide in 2001 and Latin Grammy Awards telecast. Along with his Latin roots, Ed holds a bachelor's degree in math from Florida International University - tours and lectures as a traveling music teacher with elementary school children - this is one great human being and outstanding role model, way to go - ED CALLE!
