Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Hendrix destroyed Coryell.......2005-09-19

Coryell and Hendrix emerged at the same identical moment, developing some of the same sounds. It is not true that Coryell "copied" Jimi. Hendrix was far luckier than Coryell, emerging with the sponsorship of Paul McCartney, Pete Townsend, and Chas Chandler of the Animals, and rode his work to glory. Coryell lacked Hendrix's 4 star sex appeal. Coryell eked out an existence as a jazz rocker. It is wonderful that his catalog is now being restored. This is a fabulous, furious recording.

5 out of 5 stars This guy really liked Hendrix!!...and played like him.......2003-12-14

i found this lp on the floor at an indoor flea market in the early 80's, and i've loved it ever since. the album came out in 1969, Coryell is a jazz guitarist with a love for Jimi Hendrix' style of playing. His guitar sounds a lot like Hendrix..and that's a compliment. There are many great tracks: elementary guitar solo is a very imaginative jam, sex is short, it rocks out, and uses some 60's voice distortion device, beautiful woman is very 'jazz-rock' and has great guitar work in it. it's an album that is a great listen as a whole. i mean you will want to sit and listen to the whole thing in one sitting 'cause it flows so nicely. 'lady coryell' is another album made in this vein, though not quite as great. Coryell would go on to make fusion albums into infinity that don't grab this listener. this album however, rocks!! i'm glad i looked down at the floor at that flea market in 1981 and discovered it!
