Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A timeless album.......2007-01-21

George has been a favorite artist of mine since I was a kid. I saw him once at a free concert he gave at Stern Grove in the late 90's - it was outstanding and he's a truly soulful performer. This album ranks among his better and came out a little before the live performance noted above.

George knows how to blend his superb instrumental and vocal abilities in the right ratios here to produce a truly listenable album from back to front. My favorite pastime is to cruise along Mulholland or PCH, with the sun on my back admiring the view and Mr Benson drifting through my car stereo. It may sound like a stretch - though George can actually make an LA car commute a pleasure ; )

4 out of 5 stars RIGHT on TIME!.......2002-12-28

George Benson's 1996 release presents a great blend of the artist's vocal and instrumental wizardry. Four of the selections allow the singer to flourish while the remaining six affirm Benson's talent on the guitar. With the exception of the somewhat derivative "Song for My Brother", the songs are beautiful, urban, haunting, and inspirational.

One of the highlights, "Summer Love", sounds as if it may have been a leftover from Benson's masterful 1980 release "Give Me the Night". A deft mixture of lilting melody and background vocals, simple instrumentation, and a subtle bass line, the song, like many others on the album, allows Benson to vocally his OWN guitar rifts, one of his trademarks.

And "P. Park" is a funky, little ditty that is a throwback to a time when REAL music ruled, not the synthesized, computerized, electronically enhanced tripe of today.

3 out of 5 stars Best contemporary Benson in a long time, but..........2002-05-22

A lot of jazz musicians who blazed the fusion trail and set up the foundation for contemporary/smooth jazz as we know it have made an interesting switch in their game plan: stop pioneering the form and get paid by playing what the young kids are getting paid to play. Benson's flirted with this line over the last 15 years, but this record pulls back from the line a bit more than previous forgettable outings.

This is Benson's most consistent contemporary smooth jazz record in a long time, but it's still not quite what we know he's capable of. Fine smooth jazz, but will grate on the nerves of people who remember "On Broadway".

4 out of 5 stars Good solid disc.......2000-03-12

I really dug Marvin Said a strong Tribute to Marvin Gaye.he Recorded this disc at Prince's Paisley Park and the title cut has that Prince vibe going on.also P.Park I believe is a tribute to Prince.either way not only the playing but also the vocals are the best by Benson in Quite some time.a Good Listenable Disc.He still has the CHops.

5 out of 5 stars He just keeps getting better..........1999-08-28

George Benson continues to deliver memorable music to delight Pop, Jazz and Blues fans world wide. This is one of his best! A must if you even remotely liked Breezin'. You won't be disappointed!

His concert last week was just as rewarding.
