Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars il fascino del volo.......2004-08-30

5 out of 5 stars JOY, FLUNG FROM THE HEART INTO THE SKY..........2001-11-10

...that's what I hear in this, possibly my favorite Stephan Micus recording. The photo on the back of the booklet is, I believe, a clue to the spirit contained in these pieces -- it shows Micus holding his young child aloft to the sky, and the pure joy that radiates from both of their faces shines from the heart of every piece of music on this disc.

There are both instrumentals and vocal pieces here -- in the inimitable style and quality that Stephan Micus' listeners have come to respect and expect. I have been a fan since his first album in the mid-70s, and with each new release I stand in awe of the ability of this man to convey in music the very soul of our planet, of humankind.

As in his other recordings, he combines instruments from the far corners of the world -- instruments that have, most likely, never been recorded together before -- to subtle but powerful effect. The music transports the listener and uplifts the spirit. It is completely without hype, politics or pretention -- it is universal, uncluttered and uncompromising in its beauty. It is timeless.

5 out of 5 stars top of the top.......2001-11-02

This is what bands like Dead Can Dance strive for and are so far from: Authenticity. No hype, attitude, or pretense, SM serves up an organic plate of churning music from what seems to come from heaven. If you like ethnic music and Ambient, welcome home friend.

5 out of 5 stars new age without the commercial hype.......2000-08-13

I first became acquainted with the music of Stephan Micus about ten years ago and now own all of his U.S.-released titles. Not every cut on every cd grabs me, but every cd contains at least two or three pieces that are indescribably honest and penetrating. This one has two--the longest pieces--that wash along with stunning tranquility and peace. Micus plays a large number of conventional and esoteric folk instruments, and sings (occasionally) in a language of non-words (a la Lisa Gerard) that adds further exoticism to the vaguely Asiatic-sounding mix.

5 out of 5 stars it has taken two years to write a review.......2000-07-27

It has taken me two or more years -- perhaps three -- to write a review of this CD. I still can't find words for the haunting melodies. I own 12 Micus CD's and hope that is all of them. I am ordering another today -- his new release. Thus far, this is my favorite and leaves me -- still -- without a language that contains words to describe its beauty. Which is perhaps why he choses the language he uses to express himself.
