Introducing Jeff Golub........2007-03-13
This CD was my introduction to Jeff Golub. I heard his version of "Pick Up The Pieces" by Average White Band on the radio in `95, and I had to find out who the guitar player was. After several listens to the radio, waiting for them to play the song again, and eagerly awaiting someone to announce who it was, they finally did, and I bought the CD. I was not disappointed, as there are several gems on the CD. My favorites are: "Pick Up The Pieces" (A cool, bluesy remake of the Average White Band hit), "Gimme Some" (a funky, makes ya wanna dance kinda tune, with Jeff's bluesy licks), "That's The Way Of The World" (a soothing version of the Earth, Wind, & Fire hit), "Nightingale" (a positive, uplifting tune with some very cool jazz/blues guitar melodies), "I'll Be Around" (a nice remake of the soul hit, with Jeff playing octaves and his dazzling licks), and "Moon River" (another soothing jazz remake, with just Jeff and his guitar in the beginning, playing some fat jazz chords).
The CD also features a solid drum and bass section. There are electronic drums on this CD. As a musician, I tend to favor "real" drums, especially when playing in a live band situation, but I also enjoy experimenting with electronic drum beats, so this CD really appeals to me.
I would recommend this CD to anyone who is new to Jeff Golub, or who appreciates some tasty jazz/blues guitar playing and well crafted jazz/blues songs with a modern sensibility.
Nice work!.......2000-03-29
What sold me on this album is the tracks Stockholm prelude and Stockholm. This is exactly the type of guitar work I love, its too bad not many of the tracks have more of this. In fact many of the later works by Avenue Blue/Jeff G. had gone too mainstream /commercial Jazz that is really watered down and not as enjoyable as this one.
An avenue of treasures!.......1999-06-12
Jeff Golub's guitar licks are more satisfying than any thing George Benson has done in ages. A must-have collection.
