Midnight morning-Greg Adams.......2004-01-26
Excellent....upbeat, fresh, clean and crisp. Wonderful arrangement by Greg. Talented musicians who have have a sound that is original and distinctive. Roadhouse, 'sup with that and midnight morning all top notch cuts. This is listen to anytime music.
The power of the trumpet.......2003-08-23
Greg Adams is one of the great modern trumpet and flugelhorn players around. Other modern greats include Mark Isham and of course, Herb Albert. And I think this album is an excellent album. It's an album with various styles and rhythms. And I was also pleased to hear that he added no vocals to get in away of the music. The only disappointment on the album was the decision to remake weak songs like "Breathe Again" and "Wrapped Around Your Fingers". I would have preferred to hear originals. But the other tracks are outstanding. My five favorites are: 1)"Vendetta" This is a song to lay your head back to and just soak up the sounds. Beautiful. 2)"Midnight Morning". The title track is a little reminensent of earlier and better Kenny G. 3)"Siena" This is a great song to better appreciate the beauty of a trumpet.
4)"Crosstown" The album opener starts with a luring, sexy overture, then goes into a wonderful down beat tempo song. Awesome. 5)"Sup With That" A little ditty for the feet. I am so glad to see that Greg Adams decided to take solo flights away from Tower Of Power. He has been in the shadow for too long, it is his time to shine now, and that he does through his wonderful trumpet.
midnight morning.......2003-01-26
The word that comes to mind describing Greg Adams is TASTY. His trumpet epitomizes the term "smooth jazz". Of course, I've been a fan ever since his "TOWER OF POWER" days and he brings a great deal of that fantastic sound to this CD. In the world of smooth jazz trumpet which has seemed to be dominated by Rick Braun and Chris Botti--and DON'T GET ME WRONG--I am a big fan of both, Greg Adams seems to fall somewhere in the middle. This album has everything you want--soft soulful sounds, latin rythms, and undoubtedly the track "ANDREA" is one of the most beautiful and soul searching melodies I have ever heard---and done to perfection! And, of course, if you want to "get down" there's ROADHOUSE and SUP WITH THAT (the latter being my favorite).
A big "THANK YOU" to Greg Adams for having the courage NOT to add vocals. Belive me, his music doesn't need anything but him!
Back where I didn't know I belong........2002-12-19
Frustrated by hip-hop's message, bored with "copy cat"
radio station presentations and the endless wall of "baby boomer" rock 'n roll.....what a pleasure to listen and hear the subtle, the intricate, the power and silky energy of Greg Adams' album entitled "Midnight Morning".
Dive right in and jump to cut number two: "Breathe Again."
Listen to it. You will be forced to listen to it again. And again. It transforms and transports.
That cut is now a staple of music to appear on any CD I might burn for "tunes on the go."
His rendition of Sting's "Wrapped Around My Finger," is drop-dead perfection. "Andrea" is a woman I have always wanted to meet. His rendition makes me believe I have met her.
I am going to learn to play the trumpet right now. Of course I am not going to...but listening to Greg Adams makes me wish I could play like him.
And that I have learned is my inner being telling me that this is "good" for me. This music is not just music to my ears.
It is an emotional thirst quencher. Maybe like a lot of folks, I should have turned to something like this sooner.
Yeah, I like it. A lot.
God bless you Mr. Adams and the fine group of musicians and producers that help make this such a delight.
Move over Rick Braun, and Chris Botti........2002-10-31
This is about how I would describe this effort from Greg Adams. The fluglehorn/trumpet are quite smooth and rather sexy sounding instruments. This CD sounds somewhat like Rick Braun and Chris Botti although, in my opinion, Chris Botti's playing is smoother and more effortless. However, I really enjoyed some of the more contemporary re-makes such as the ones done of Anita Baker (Breathe again) and Sting (Wrap around your finger). Both compositions could have been a little longer. I've never heard of Greg Adams up to now, but he seems to have a very promising future playing smooth jazz re-makes of good R&B and pop tunes. His re-makes are creative as well as relaxing. I'll have to check out his first CD now as my interest is up. This CD is something that Rick Braun should have made, but his creativity suffered in his last effort. Whats needed is consistency, and Greg Adams somewhat provides it here although I have to agree with the first reviewer somewhat. I give it a five anyway as the compositions that I like are really quite enjoyable.
