Customer Reviews:
a flute and sax virtuoso.......2002-02-19
A few years after Moody got famous by playing his solo on "I'm In the Mood for Love," we find the soxophonist playing his own brand of bebop and hard bop both on the sax and on the flute. He picked up the flute after being encouraged from some flautist friends, including Yusef Lateef. To this day, Moody still does not consider himself a flute player - he thinks of himself as a "flute holder."
Moody's Mood For Love is a fine album with a good collection of tempos and instruments. Moody sounds equally fluent on both the tenor sax and the flute. Vocalist Eddie Jefferson appears on a couple of tracks, once to sing the famous "Moody's Mood" in his own peculiar style. A solid addition to your collection.
One of the CLASSICS of Jazz!.......2001-05-23
I stumbled onto this CD while browsing one day at an OLD record shop in downtown Seattle. They wanted $3 for it! I'd heard my father speak of this man's skill, but had never experienced it for myself, and at $3.....I couldn't miss! Took the CD to the car, and by the 16th measure of the FIRST song, I was hooked! When that flute kicks in on FOOLIN' THE BLUES.....you're done! If you can STILL get this CD, at ANY price...do so! Now, I need to get BACK to that record store, maybe they have a Miles Davis CD laying around for $4.50! LOL.... Pure Jazz greatness!
All Great Cuts.......1999-10-24
This is "Classic" stuff. The two vocal pieces are precious. A very smooth, joyful CD, right on the money. I was into "Moody's Mood For Love" 36 years ago and Im wonder'n how I could have forgotten it for so many years. Thank You James where ever you are.
