Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars timeless!.......2007-01-11

I first heard and bought this as an album back in the early 70's - and it was and still is a favorite of mine. The cello and the piano blend so well together - you will not be disappointed!!

5 out of 5 stars For heaven's sake, people---let's review THIS album!.......2006-12-08

Okay, maybe "Come to the Meadow" is better; I haven't listened to my copy recently, so I won't argue the point. EXCEPT to point out that it's sort of an apples and pears comparison, since this CD uses an orchestra and CttM is, as I recall, the quartet alone.

All that aside, the "fact" (i.e., my opinion) remains that this is a gorgeous, inventive, landmark album, certainly worthy of 5 stars in its own right. My advice to potential purchasers: simply listen to the excerpts here, and see if the beautiful melodies and range of moods grab you right away, as I suspect they will--without worrying about whether some other (currently non-existent) CD might be "better"!

1 out of 5 stars Injustice .......2006-07-25

The 1974 LP "Come to the Meadow" by the same Cello Quartet is the most sensational music I have ever heard. I was hoping that the music in this CD would comfort me, but it has only caused me to crave the Meadow all the more.

3 out of 5 stars Come to the Meadow is better.......2005-11-18

I have both the Cello Quartet and Come to the Meadow on LP from the original issue. There is no question that Come to the Meadow is by far the superior recording. It swings with much more jazz feeling. Your toe just won't stop tapping. I'm surprised that it wasn't chosen over the Cello Quartet for release. Some record executive didn't do his homework.
I want to replace my Come to the Medow LP with a CD, so I will keep looking. Maybe, one of these days...

4 out of 5 stars I agree - Come to the Meadow needs to be made available.......2005-04-03

I bought this after hearing Come to the Meadow on NPR's Selected Shorts. Like the others have said, I wish I could get that on CD. I'm going to contact Verve and see what they have to say.
