A bit Blusey for me........2005-04-20
I love jazz guitar, but the problem I have is finding new artists that are as good as my favorities(Ronny Jordan, and Norman Brown)In the pursuit of new artists, I happend to be a Virgin superstore in London, where I asked a gent to reccomend some smooth jazz peeps. This CD was thrown in my direction, and after a quick listen, I duly purchased. The first cut Boom, Boom is firing, and is the best cut of the album. After this procedings are mixed, with a general blues mix set into the whole procedure. If you likea bit of blues, cool, if not, then think again. Still looking for good artists in this genre.
"Soul Sessions" Music for the Soul........2003-12-04
Sit down, relax, and take a close listen to this disc. This is music reminiscent of the jazz greats of the sixties, with Jeff's fretprints all over it. I was fortunate enough to hear Jeff "live" in Chicago (before this was released) where he opened his set with the first track "BOOM BOOM". WOW! At first listen of the entire disc, I felt it was right there with all of Jeff's releases. But then, as I listened again and again, I was knocked out by his playing. On tracks like "Isn't That So" and "Can't Let You Go", he isn't the instrument on the track, he is the other voice. His playing as emotional and soulful the vocals. Pick this one up, then sit down and listen to a REAL guitarist, a jazz great, and an album that would be a fine addition to any collection.
A Must Have.......2003-11-28
I am a big fan of this artist. Soul Sessions is Jeff's best work to date. My favorite track is "Back Home." Other great cuts are "Can't Let You Go" with guest vocals from Steve Perry and "Vibrolux." This is a great cd to drive to or unwind to. If you are a guitar player, Jeff's amazing vibrato and tone shows he has complete control. He is a monster player! Soul Sessions has some great grooves and a great sense of melody. PicK up this cd and check out his past works as well!
maybe a little too harsh, 2.5 stars, perhaps........2003-11-26
The first track on this album is excellent and thrilling. After that the album takes a tumble and the tunes fail to live up to the initial boom. Download this one off Kazaa - see Jeff live - but don't buy the CD... Sorry...
