Customer Reviews:
Pure Genius.......2006-12-21
When the used version of a CD sells for more than it did new, it usually indicates that a very special album has gone out of print before its time. "Along the Way" is one such collection.
I own several of Dan Siegel's CDs, including this one, and they are all gems. I have yet to find a track this man has laid down that I don't love to listen to, and that's a rarity in the music field (hey, even the Beatles struck out once in a while - remember Revolution 9? But I digress....).
Ladies and gentlemen, this is smooth jazz at its finest. With hundreds of high-quality competitors in the genre, Mr. Siegel is definitely at the top of the heap. This collection is proof of that. I just wish that finding his older albums wasn't so difficult, or I'd own all of his works.
And, by the way, track 14 is "Northern Nights", not "Northern Lights" as it's listed above. It's from his CD of the same name, and one of my all-time favorites. Just thought I'd mention that to see if the folks at Amazon actually read these reviews.
Save up your pennies and buy yourself a copy of this CD. It's worth it.
Great CD with some nice new tracks.......2001-05-28
This was a nice CD that I thoroughly enjoyed. Since I'm also a Lakers fan, it's nice to hear that the first track is the same song heard at the end of Lakers games. Siegel's music is very nice to listen to, calm-like and I recommend this CD to anyone and everyone!
A Solid Collection of Smooth Jazz.......2001-02-27
It's only been the past year of so that I've been into smooth jazz, and hadn't heard of Dan Siegel until a music club featured this collection. From listening to this CD it's clear Siege is a terrific keyboardist and a strong composer. The music has its feet planted in the most radio-friendly of the smooth jazz tradition, but there is enough flair and adventurousness under the surface to keep the listener's interest.
The first five tracks are previously unreleased material and are solid, if a little standard, with his cover of Pavane definitely a standout. And maybe because they're culled from previous works, the rest of the CD picks up from there. The tracks are arranged in reverse chronological order so we get a sense of how Siegel developed as a musician and the songs are varied from the dark tones of Late One Night to the Bright and aptly named Feelin' Happy. Other highlights unclude Dee-ah and the final track, Reflections, his first big hit.
Not every song is completely memorable, but with 18 songs and 75 minutes of music, this was definitely worth my money. nd no I want to go looking for his other albums, which is what a successful collection should be able to do.
