Customer Reviews:
Not my taste.......2007-03-06
Having on of the biggest record collections in the Netherlands and a fan of Dave Grusin from the 60's, I have to say this record is only for a SUNDAY AFTERNOON. I spinned it several times but sorry to say I don't like this bodyless piano-playing.
I drop this cd in the cellar.
Dave Grusin's best album to date by far!!!!.......1999-07-18
I have in excess of 1000 CD's in my collection and would place this particular "GEM" in my top 10.The reasons are as follows . First the selection of music tracks composed by the master "Duke" needs no comment from me.... all superb ! Second , the ability of the players on board to do justice to the Duke's compositions have got to heard to be believed...every arrangement has had some SERIOUS thought input prior to recording. And listen out for the bassist "Brian Bromberg" he's up there with NHOP , Brown, and company ..Brilliant!!! And finally,if you're in the market for a new sound system in your home ,take this CD down to your dealer as I did to test run YOUR possible new purchase ,simply it's the BEST recorded CD I have in my collection.Put on "Satin Doll"..Turn it up and see if the system survives! Congratulation Mr Grusin & Company!!!
Swing Dancers' Alert!.......1998-08-05
This is swing music as it was meant to be played! I am a big fan of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Indigo Swing, but the musicians assembled for this recording positively blow away both those bands put together. Highlights include a frenzied "Caravan," a moody "Sophisticated Lady," and a rendition of "C-Jam Blues" that really rocks. Dave Grusin's piano is in top form, and the instrumental solos here so far outclass those heard on modern swing cd's that it makes you wish these "old guys" would play dance halls once in a while. Any swing dance aficianado who wants to experience the real deal should get this cd! (Only one warning - the presence of bass solos make this a tough cd to dance to.)
