Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Hit Or Miss!!!!!!.......2004-08-06

This album is a "hit or miss." It's very experimental. Most Spyro fans probally either love it, or hate it. Then there's the small percentage who can just tolerate it. This album is very "80's" sounding. There is a good blend of jazz though. The best track on the album is the title track. Breakout, I first heard on Spyro's Collection album, a rare un available compilation made in 1991. It has amazing solos delivered by all. Tom Schuman, your great on the keys! And might I add Dave Samuels' marimba solo. Great hot stuff! Bob Goes To The Store and Whirlawind are my personal favorites. Like I said, this album is a hit or miss. You might love it, you might hate it. Your gonna have to take a risk with it.

5 out of 5 stars predictable perfection.......2003-11-17

This is a great spyro album that diserves more credet than it gets,it is my personal favorite.

5 out of 5 stars A review of Spyro Gyra's Breakout........2003-04-28

Breakout is a very underrated cd. It is a good one, however. It was the fourth Spyro Gyra cd that I ever purchased. It would rank in my top 7 favorite Spyro Gyra albums of all time. It was released in the year of 1986. The decade of their greatness. I'll admit that this isn't your average Spyro Gyra. They wanted to try something new and they were sucsessful at it. It's a fantastic cd and every song has something to offer. I can't comprehend why some people despise it so much.

My top 3 favorite songs on the album wuold have to be 1,3, and 4. Bob Goes To The Store is a great song featuring an awesome bass solo in it. Doubletake is good and Jay does some great playing in it. Breakout is an upbeat, fast, and energizing song. It does well at displaying the groups obvious talent. Every song on here is admirable.

This cd is underrated. It is good and deserves more praise of it. Believe me, I know my Spyro Gyra. You should purchase this album. You might just happen to love it as much as I do. Thank you for taking the time and generosity to read my review.

5 out of 5 stars A GREAT MIXTURE!.......2003-03-14

I'VE BEEN A FAN FOR TWENTY YEARS PLUS AND THIS RECORDING RATES VERY HIGH ON MY LIST OF GYRA FAVS. IT HAS A DIFFERENT MIX OF OF SONGS THAT RANGE FROM JAZZ ROCK, TO FUSION,AND ALMOST MYSTICAL SOUNDING MELODYS. A GREAT, BUT "SOME WHAT" DIFFERENT GYRA THAT I OFTEN ENJOY ON HEADPHONES...

3 out of 5 stars Hmmm.......2000-12-12

On the first few listens, I was really disppointed with this release from Spyro Gyra. But after a few more listens, well, wait, there's actually some substance to this more "random" style of jazz-fusion.

It starts with a bang with "Bob Goes To The Store". "Body Wave" appears to be very 80's poppish. And "Swept Away" is a nice instrumental ballad. The songs in between are nothing special including the title song "Breakout" which has no real memorable melody.

While not a bad release, I highly recommend "Incognito" and "Alternating Currents" far superior to this CD.
