Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Live at the Bijou.......2006-08-22

I say that this particular Album is very dear to me, After listening to the cd that replaced an eight track tape, I am very happy.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to believe it's a live album and not a studio session!.......2005-12-29

This album is unreal. If you thought Grover's earlier hit albums such as "Feels So Good" or "Mister Magic" were hot smooth and funky, you haven't heard ANYTHING yet!

From what I understand, the songs performed on this album were just that - performed exclusively and only available on this live set. If these are tunes that Grover intended to record but never did, he made a terrible mistake.

There isn't anything I can't say here really about this album that no one else has said except for the fact that this album is a slept on sampleable piece of music. For instance, we all know how "Hydra" was sampled extensively by everyone from Black Moon to A Tribe Called Quest, and let's not even go into the sampling of "Mister Magic"...but suprisingly, the only tune off this album that was sampled by anyone was "Lock It in the Pocket" by Gangstarr on "Words from the Nutcracker" (the joint with the Group Home cat on it) and "Flip the Script". I think Das Efx may have also sampled the same tune, but I'm not positive.

Either way, this album is a must have for Hip-Hop heads, producers and b-boys worldwide. It's relatively untapped and not a very popular album, so when you flip the beat in your sampler, it will be fresh! Regardless, buy this album. If you ain't feelin it, I ain't feelin you!

5 out of 5 stars excellent.......2004-07-19

The funkiest, tightest and most energetic live jazz album that I've ever heard. This will have fans of any kind of music groovin'. Check this one out, you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Grover Live and Cooking.......2003-08-06

This is my top pick for taking to that deserted island. Having seen this concert in person and following Grover through his career, I can say this is the peak of the master's talent, style and soul. Back up musicians, Locksmith, perfectly compliment Grover's ability to create one climax after another and then bring you back to the pulse and beat. The emotion and recording is raw--not overproduced like the popular albums--its a good thing. The genius of Grover will be revealed as time goes on and this album will become the centerpiece of his works. Somebody please release more live cuts from the "Man". Grover Washington, Locksmith, peace.

5 out of 5 stars First Jazz/Funk Album I Ever Heard........2002-05-13

"Live At The Bijou"was the first 70's jazz album I ever heard. The funky "Funkfoot" and the jazzy"You Make Me Dance" were simple mind blowing songs to me. After I heard this album I knew I was a Grover fan. When I found out he died in 1998 I was very sad because I felt like the world lost a true musicial musican. After this album I went out and brought albums like "Skylarkin","Paradise" and "Winelight".After I heard Grover I started to get into some stuff my dad listened to like The Crusaders,Rick Braun,Brian Culbertson and Steve Cole. Grover Washington Jr. will always live on.
