Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A typical DF CD with a mix of covers and original material.......2006-06-01

Dancing Fantasy's self-titled 1999 release is an interesting mix of covers as well as of course original material. The covers often have a mixed signal from me. Their cover of "Take Five" is definately original but I am not too fond of how they converted a 5/4 timing into just a conventional 4/4 track but apart from that, this is still a great song. The cover version of Art of Noises famous 1984 classic "Moments In Love" is beautifully done and has it's own character altogether but I wish it was much longer. The second half of this album is stronger with the beautiful "Eternal" and "Power of Life". The closing track "Farewell" brings back some of the classic DF of their early years but even that is a far cry from beauties like "Quiet Beauty" and their "California Grooves" release. Overall, this is yet another decent but mixed bag collection.

3 out of 5 stars Dancing Fantasy????.......2005-09-19

I have been collecting music from the past 25 years.
I own practically all CDs from Dancing Fantasy:

"Worldwide", "Day Dream", "Soundscapes", "California Grooves", "Midnight Boulevard", and "Moonlight Reflections".

and this new one, "Dancing Fantasy", is the one I like the LEAST!!!

First of all, if you have followed DF career you will notice that they have changed from "Intelligent_Progressive New Age" to a much more commercial(almost pop) style.

My favorite CD is "Midnight Boulevard" and it is totally different from "Dancing Fantasy".

"DF" CD is a bunch of covers mixed with "original" material. And I say "original" because you can hear passages from earlier albums in many tracks. Moreover, the cover of "Moments in Love" is pathetic since I own the Original CD from The Art of Noise and I can tell that TAOF song is a 9-minute piece that you wish to last longer, while the DF version is more shorter and lacks the emotional hurricane the original version has. "Take Five" is another fiasco. I also own the Original version, which was written decades ago, and this one is far beyond Dancing Fantasy's version.

I believe that being forced to give whatever stars out of FIVE is a crime. I would prefer 100/100 score reviews. But that's not the way it is. So, 3 out of 5 is my most honest opinion. However, in order to make this review useful for you, let me tell you this: if you like "Soundscapes", buy this CD; but be aware that "DF" is kind of "jazzy pop", while "Soundscapes" shows much more carefully designed music. On the other hand, if you like "Midnight Boulevard"'s style, DON'T waste your time and money listening to this CD. You will be very disappointed!!!

5 out of 5 stars Nite Music.......2003-05-15

During those rare quiet nights in the ER, there's nothing quite like Dancing Fantasy's "Take Five" to soothe the weary. The opening note will take your breath away! This song, and subsequently, the album, was my intro to smooth jazz. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars This is smooth jazz at it's best.......2001-06-08

A brilliant mixture of hip-hop beats with mild synth creating a perfect soundtrack for equally day and night.
