Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An interesting dilemma for the jazz fan.......2004-12-18

What the esteemed B. Parker is referring to in his review ("Do not buy this CD", on this page) is that 3 of the songs (So What, Freddie Freeloader, Blue In Green) on this CD were mastered at the wrong speed. The trouble is, ever since this recording was released in 1959, those 3 songs have ALWAYS been heard at the wrong speed. Jazz musicians were confounded about how Davis and company achieved their sound. So, this particular CD presents us with the version of the album the way it was when it became famous. (Amazon's listing is wrong, by the way, this CD does not include the alternate take of Flamenco Sketches.) There is a newer CD, on which the engineers have remastered all the songs at the speed at which they were recorded. So... Do you go for the recording in the form in which it became world famous, or do you go for the way the musicians actually played it? You know, one could consider the off-speed mastering a "post-production technique", especially since no one bothered to "correct" it for almost 40 years.

5 out of 5 stars redefinition of jazz by the master.......1999-03-25

By listening to the new Davis' album, my love for pure jazz was truly reconfirmed. What a great performance by the duke of jazz. Truly this is one of the best jazz albums I have ever bought. My respect goes to Mr Miles Davis.
