Customer Reviews:
I had forgotten this was missing in my life...........2005-05-29
Civilized Evil is one of my absolute favorite albums ever. I first bought the cassette, then the album and the disc. I first heard this on a college station in Colorado in the 80's. Listening in a dark, candlelit atmosphere, Once Upon a Blue Planet never fails to pull emotion. I love every track of this unique disc. JLP at his best.
Randy Jackson to the plate!.......2005-02-27
This is the first Ponty album Randy Jackson (American Idol judge) played on after Ralphe Armstrong quit the band. He did a great job if not better than Ralphe did! The music went into a more funky groove on this album. Another era was beginning.
Amazing!!!!.......2004-12-19
This c.d. is a definite buy! This c.d. will bring you back many years from now. The titles are fantastic. It's also a great c.d. to add to the collection. He's a great violinist!
The Quintessential JLP.......2001-06-15
Very often an artist will release an album that encapsulates the essentials of the artist's work. Think of the Eagles and "Hotel California", or "Damn the Torpedoes" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. For Jean-Luc Ponty, "Civilized Evil" is that album. Which means, of course, that if you buy only one JLP album, this is the one you should get.
Ponty illustrates both his mastery of the Jazz Violin (Now there's something you don't see every day!), and every aspect of his techno-funk fusion style on this CD. And his style is varied, ranging from the hautingly beautiful and orchestral "Forms of Life" to the pure driving fusion of "Peace Crusaders" to the retro progressive Jazz sound of "Happy Robots".
Buy this CD now, and, like me, you'll be listening to it with as much happiness 20 years later (My God, has it been THAT LONG!).
Still Stellar After All these Years...........2000-11-03
....there ain't nothing on earth like the sound of Ponty's zapped-up violin. Call it Music from inside the SuperNova. This is one of my favorites. I have it on cassette and after a long wait in my stacks, I played it one day. Pretty much blew me away, like always--my favorite is the ultrofusion cut "Happy Robots". So, like the progressive that I am, I upgraded my Ponty...I purchased it on CD and am now happily enjoying my cross town travels with it. It is in my car player as I am writing this. I feel like I am in the space shuttle when "Forms of Life" is playing....
