Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Not bad not great.......2007-03-13

"Between the sheets" By Fourplay was an okay album. Some songs were okay. Most of the vocals were on point. I wasn't really feeling the Isley Brothers Remake. Fourplay skipped the whole 3rd verse. The instrumental sounded nothing like the original from the Isley Brothers. That was the only good thing about the song. The original instrumental by the Isley Brothers gets annoying because it is oversampled. It has been sampled at least 5 times: 1. "Big Poppa" Notorious BIG 2. "Luxurious" Gwen Stefani 3. "Funkdafied" Da Brat 4. "Summer Wit Miami" Jim Jones 5. "One of those days" Whitney Houston. That is too much. Anyways, like I said this album is okay. I think it could have been better

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Fourplay !!!.......2006-08-17

I just can't add much more to the fantastic reviews for this album. I have had this album for years and have always enjoyed the music. And to top this last night I was in the concert Live in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia with FOURPLAY and had an autographed CD 'X" (their latest release) to boot!!! And it was a blast when meeting them individually after the concert... A real honour to meet and entertained by these legends of Jazz !!! Absolutely Fantastic !!!

4 out of 5 stars Fabulous Foreplay!!!.......2005-12-29

I own three CD's by these guys and all of them are good, but the songs Chant, Monterey, Between The Sheets, Flying East, and Amoroso make this fabulous Foreplay!!! Their isn't a bad song on this one. Their music is relaxing and not boring. These fellows are excellent musicians!!!

5 out of 5 stars "POWERFUL ATTRACTION TO THE JAZZ SCENE".......2005-09-18

WHAT CAN I SAY OTHER THAN THE "BETWEEN THE SHEETS" CD IS A ONE-OF-A-KIND ATTRACTION FOR THE BEDROOM AND FOR A LONG-DRIVE... NATHAN EAST AND THE REST OF YOU CREATED A GREAT SET OF MUSIC ONCE AGAIN, AND SO WE ALL THANK-YOU... THE RHYTHYM AND THE BEAT ARE SO ELEGANT, EACH SONG SHOULD HAVE MADE IT TO "NUMBER ONE"...TO ALL OF THE FELLOW MUSICIANS THAT HAVE HEARD THIS ONE, EAT YOUR HEART-OUT BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY MORE GREAT ALBUMS BY "FOURPLAY" TO COME....
THE Q.......

5 out of 5 stars It's because of this album that I became a Fourplay fan........2005-06-08

`Between the Sheets' was the second album that Fourplay (now Bob James, Nathan East, Larry Carlton, and Harvey Mason) ever made. In my opinion, it is also the best album that they ever made (I own all seven of their albums as of today). This is the first album to which I had ever listened from this group. It's mostly because of a song entitled "Chant" that this group interested me, and led me to purchase the CD - I had previously owned a cassette version. My mother has this friend who is a die-hard jazz fanatic, and he would make tapes for her from across various artists and so forth. At a time that I was new to the genre of jazz - which was about 1998 - and it was on its way to becoming my top favorite genre of music (next to R&B of course), I borrowed some tapes and heard this song on it (the song titles and artists' names were labeled). Something about "Chant" really drew me in. It doesn't feature any actual singing or lyrics to speak of, just harmonizing.

The song "Chant" inspired me to purchase a cassette version of `Between the Sheets,' and consequently, the CD version. Granted I bought the CD solely because of "Chant", the rest of the album pretty much blew me away. The songs all sounded very nice, very fun to listen to, very smooth, and not too harsh on the ears. Furthermore, they all provide just the right length. There's no song on here that's shorter than five minutes, which makes it an ideal choice if you're engaged in chores. Some of the greatest songs on this album include "Chant", "Once in the AM", "Gulliver", "Amoroso", and "Monterrey." These songs in particular all have a surrealistic, majestic feel to them. Additionally, each song is incredibly dulcet, and there's virtually nothing on here that's dull or insipid. The melodies can only be described as euphonious and pleasant. I'm a huge math lover, and whenever I listen to this album, it makes me think of the good times I used to have listening to this album while I would work on Pre-calculus problems, or review notes given to me from superb instructors. Whenever I listen to it, even though I've already graduated from high school, it reminds me of those times (oddly enough, if you look at Fourplay's "f" symbol, you'll see that it looks just look the integrand symbol used in Calculus, only with a dash through it). There's also something about the instruments from each of the aforementioned song titles that makes each one equally as pleasant, especially in "Amoroso", "Once in the AM", and "Gullliver" (our top three favorite tracks on the album). In summary, if you have a penchant for jazz, or consider it your favorite genre of music, or even close, then `Between the Sheets' is simply a must-own for you.
