Customer Reviews:
Crisp, smooth and clean .......2006-03-07
Guitarist Tim Bowman has assembled a brilliant supporting cast (Bamm Davis on organ and piano, Al Turner on bass, and numerous family members and friends), for this engaging 14-song CD. The opening number, 'Summer Groove', is the epitome of smooth jazz, with Nelson Rangel on sax, Tim's own son providing vocal support and Tim's brother, Bryan, adding notable keyboard effects. The album intermixes buttery adult-contemporary themes with delightful and rich acoustic pieces, especially track #7, 'Acoustic Rain'. 'My Praise' is the only track that doesn't belong -- it would be more at home on a gospel album.
This is a CD at its best when sampled in front of a blazing fire and a glass of Merlot, or on a top-down roadster cruise along winding back roads. Good stuff!
Great Album!.......2005-07-19
Tim Bowman is a great guitar player, and this is an awesome debut album! "Summer Groove" is my personal favorite, but there are all great songs. If you like smooth jazz guitar players? this guy is worth picking up!
"Smooth Jazz Guitar With A Twist Of Gospel".......2005-05-22
After my first listen, I loved this disc. Tim Bowman is right up there with my other favorites: Norman Brown and Nick Colionne. My
favorite tracks are "Summer Groove";"Dance";"Candy's Groove";" My
Praise(Reprise) and "225". "225" is silky smooth, but I thought it was the late Zach Breaux doing "Comin Home Baby" off the "Groovin" CD. Striking resemblance. Nevertheless, Bowman has some really fine chops. I'll be playing this disc for a good long time. Buy It!.
Better than Norman Brown's New One.......2004-11-29
I LOVE Norman Brown, so do not misunderstand my title. My fiance and I will have most of Norman's songs played during our jazzy brunch, as well as on our completed wedding DVD. We actually met Norman at a Jazz concert in Northern Michigan and he told us to wait until his next CD came out - we were disappointed. I also bought this CD at the same time and we have yet to take it out of rotation. From the first song you are well aware of his musical talent and his flowy style with the rest of the music - he seems eager to please the ear of fans new and old and it is very reminiscent of Norman Brown's earlier, "After the Storm'" (a must have for jazz fans). Angel is my favorite song and just squeaks by Summer Groove in spiritual expression. We are adding several songs from this CD to our must play list for the reception. The song with Marvin Winans is enjoyable - but sounds just like every other song Marvin Winans records. The reason for only 4 stars - although I live in Toledo and Rance Allen has played at my church, I don't much care for old school gospel so that just was not as pleasing as the rest of the CD. Buy it to keep Gospel Jazz on the market, as well as for the song 'Summer Groove' and for 'Angel' that you won't be able to get out of your head!
Entertaining & Inspirational.......2004-10-16
I'm new to this whole "Gospel Jazz" flavor, but I got to tell you, if this CD is a true representation of the vibe I am so feelin' it. I've always enjoyed contemporary jazz, and point blank, I LOVE THE LORD! This CD was both entertaining and inspirational. I initially purchased the CD because I thought Summer Groove alone was worth the price of the entire CD. What a pleasant surprise. I recommend this CD to any true lover of God and music.
