This Is a Smooth Groove, Indeed........2006-12-22

Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a desert reception with the Hispanic Elected Local Officials (HELO) in Reno, Nevada while attending a meeting of the National League of Cities (NLC). HELO is a constituency group within NLC. Anyway, about 10 minutes into the reception, I asked what radio station was playing. Someone pointed me to the music, and low and behold, it was this CD playing, "Playboy Jazz: In a Smooth Groove." After extended listening, I was fascinated on how great the music flowed. In fact, the flow was so smooth, the music did not draw attention to itself and throughout the evening, everyone was engaged in some rather stimulating intellectual discourse. This is an excellant CD for that purpose. While I can personally make a CD that equals or betters this compilation, it takes considerable effort to do so, and I'd much rather buy it already done rather than spend the enormous amount of time it takes to make a CD that flows to the point its ear candy. This CD, as a compilation is just that, ear candy. It gets my highest recommendation, and should be in your collection even if you already own some of these songs in individual CDs like I do. Here, its already put together for you, and its great listening around the home or in the car, too.

This compilation is a great introduction to Smooth Jazz and some of the excellent artists who soothe and smooth our hectic lives. Prior to this album, I really did not know many smooth jazz artists beyond Kenny G and, after a while, I found his music a bit redundant.

However, this variety gives you an excellent perspective on several artists. My favorites include Paul Taylor, Tania Maria, Spyro Gyra and Eric Marienthal. Although they were not featured on this compilation and if you like your smooth jazz a little more funky and upbeat, try Down to the Bone. Good Listening to you!!
