Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars For my mum........2007-02-26

I remember listening to the vinyl version of this with my mother. I remember hazy sunlight filtering through our hippy curtains, the flared jeans and tight tops, the feeling that something wonderful was about to happen. I remember (barely) Watergate and my dad's Monte Carlo and the constant sound of music my young parents played. That Phoebe Snow had a miserable career (and life) after this album (perhaps before) breaks my heart because it so epitomizes a time in my life and a feeling in the air from say 73-76 that there was a mellow, meloncholy force of good in the world that is now of course no where to be found.

5 out of 5 stars A Timeless Gem .......2006-07-13

I've had this CD awhile (first owned as a cassette) and played it often for years. In going through my music to see what treasures are so essential that they must be replaced, this was way high on the list. (So was another of the incomparable Snow's work, Something Real.)
Snow's VOICE is impossible to easily characterize, so I won't try. But she is, simply put, a unique and brilliant interpreter of songs, not a mere singer. Whatever the emotion of the song, she captures it completely and conveys it so intensely that you experience it as your own.
That is artistry.

5 out of 5 stars Phoebe Snow CD - released 1974.......2006-02-25

Excellent disc! Jazz, blues, folk, rock all fused into one. Phoebe can fingerpick guitar like WOW! Uses interesting chord voicings too. She's surrounded by excellent musicians on this disc. I bought the LP when it was originally released in 1974, then traded it away a few years later. Am real glad I acquired it again.

5 out of 5 stars phoebe snow - debut album.......2005-06-05

I first heard this album way back in 1974, via Phoebe's "Poetry Man". The soft velvety texture of her voice on this song, as well as "San Francisco Bay Blues", made me a fan for life. I never forgot the impact she made on me with her singing and I had hoped that many people would discover her music. Only now are people discovering and in some cases, "rediscovering" her. She never went out of style for me, and I for one am glad she is finally finding her place in the sun with a new allegiance of younger fans. I still have my old vinyl album. Incidentally, many people may also be surprised to realize this album was originally produced by Shelter Records. Yes, that's right, the recording studio of the "Master of Space and Time" himself, the great Leon Russell! The producer of the album was Dino Airali and the co-producer and engineer was Phil Ramone, with the record distributed by MCA Records. Long live the essence of Phoebe!

5 out of 5 stars A great body of work..................2005-01-10

This album is absolutely a great body of work. There is no one that sounds like her nor has her sound. This is the kind of cd you put on when friends are over. People always asks who is this playing. I merely say none other than Phoebe Snow, lol! Don't you know they run out and get it. It makes for such a conversation piece.
